Microsoft announced today that it plans to bring Google Calendar and Contacts support to Outlook 2016 for Mac later this year. Now we just have to hope that this doesn’t break when Google changes the rules on us regarding how Gmail operates. Outlook for Mac has long supported connecting to and managing your Gmail. With these updates, Outlook will now also sync your Google calendars and contacts. The experience will be very similar to what you are familiar with in Outlook today, with support for all the core actions—such as add, delete, edit time and location.

Office Insider Fast members will be the first to test Google Calendar and Contacts syncing on Outlook 2016 for Mac with a rollout starting today. Following a round of testing and feedback, Microsoft says Google Calendar and Contacts support will come to Office 365 customers using Outlook 2016 for Mac. Once the update rolls out to all users, Google Calendar and Contacts support will bring the Mac software up to parity with iOS and Android versions of Outlook for Google service users. Hi folks, I'm stuck with smart phone access to my gmail at the moment. Is anyone else finding that when using gmail app, it is not concurrent with webmail, even after sync? I used to use the gmail app sometimes for quickly checking my mail, but recently discovered that it does not seem to get new mail very quickly. Even when it has just been synched, it seems to be behind the web version. I can find new mail by pointing my browser at the gmail site.

Or, more importantly, I miss new email if I use the app. I have not worked out how far behind the app is, just noticed that it is. I use the web interface, mostly for convenience and functionality, as I find both the mobile site, and the native android gmail app limited. One of the problems I find with accessing the desktop version of gmail on touch-screen phone is that the archive button is inconveniently right next to 'report spam'!
