Dropbox is a convenient solution for keeping files and documents in sync across multiple devices. If you use a Mac and want to add a Dropbox folder to the Finder sidebar, download and install the free Dropbox for Mac application. To do so, follow the instructions on screen. Hi Dropbox community. Long time Dropbox user, pretty au fait with how things work. I use Smart Sync and has been trouble free - i'm installing the desktop app on a new computer (macOS High Sierra 10.13.6) and have selected to keep files 'online only'. Left it running overnight to sync and it's basically attempting to download all 900GB onto my hard drive. I'm very hesitant to stop it and try again, because I dont want to spend another 36 hours having everything sync - so far it's using 300GB on my hard drive and says it it 'syncing 107,000 files remaining) - If I go into preferences and look at the selective sync menu, it shows me that nearly all folders are set to online only, with the grey cloud icon. My question is, is it actually downloading everything or just allocating hard drive as it syncs, which it will then release once it's finished syncing, with nearly all files being 'online only' - and if its option B, surely that's a weird way to go about it!

Any assistance gratefully recieved. Hi Jay - many thanks for the quick reply. Cmd-Clicking on the Dropbox folder tells me that the size is 197GB. Music software for mac keyboard. I can see the available space on my Mac HD ticking down slowly.

BUT if I select 'Quick Look' on the folder, then it tells me the size is 435GB. So I imagine that currently the app has synced 435GB of my dropbox, with 197GB of those files being downloaded to my hard drive? Free dictionaries download for os x sierra. Also just a wondering - if it does allocate space using placeholder files, then what do I do if my dropbox is bigger than my hard drive, is there noway to install?
