Problem: I did a full backup on my MacBook Pro late 2011 using time machine and a password protected my passport for mac external drive. I then installed a solid state drive. Formatted it and was trying to restore from time machine but the computer could not locate or see the drive. I was not prompted for the password.

How does one restore from an external drive with a password. My passport drive is a western digital and I do not know how to remove this security feature. Any suggestions, I reinstalled the old drive and I am back up and running at the moment. For the freshly installed OS on the SSD, login once as a disposable user account.
