My Passport For Mac How To Restore Permissioins

Problem: I did a full backup on my MacBook Pro late 2011 using time machine and a password protected my passport for mac external drive. I then installed a solid state drive. Formatted it and was trying to restore from time machine but the computer could not locate or see the drive. I was not prompted for the password.

How does one restore from an external drive with a password. My passport drive is a western digital and I do not know how to remove this security feature. Any suggestions, I reinstalled the old drive and I am back up and running at the moment. For the freshly installed OS on the SSD, login once as a disposable user account. For best results, this temp account should *not* be named the same as an account which will be transferred (say, 'user2' vs 'user') and should be an admin account. Once in this temp account is logged in, mount the Passport drive as usual. Got to Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant, and choose to import the Time Machine backup.

Else, attach the old drive (via USB3 enclosure/etc) and mount that directly to transfer via Migration Assistant. For the future, avoid Passport encryption, hard drive password, and the like. Rather, use Mac OS X' native FileVault2 drive encryption, and Time Machine's 'encrypt backup' when first starting a new backup mount point. Thank you all, as it turns out the passport drive failed the test and is out of warranty. WD thinks i could not access the security portion to address removing the password because of this failure.

VirtualBox is a cross-platform virtualization application. What does that mean? For one thing, it installs on your existing Intel or AMD-based computers, whether they are running Windows, Mac. VirtualBox is an excellent alternative to VMWare Fusion for your Mac. For clarification, I installed VirtualBox 4.2.6 on a Macbook running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. At the time of this video my. Download virtualbox for mac.

Software So i have a new passport on order but went with a 1 TB drive which should cover me for a few years. Do not plan to place any encryption on it.

I will have to research the Mac OS file vault2 and the time machine encryption backup. I had hoped that I could reformat the drive and get rid of all passwords but i did that and the passwords were still there. My time machine failed to back up several times so i must check yhe passport drive on a regualr basis while in warranty period. Live and learn. Thanks again.

A WD My Passport formatted with Mac file system will be a dud on the Windows and vice-versa. Thankfully, MS-DOS FAT32 and ex-FAT formats have survived to date, and these are the file system to make your WD My Passport work with a Mac and a Windows PC simultaneously.
